Get Your Website Live Fast

Done Is Better is a practical, impartial guide to getting your small business online.

It’s aimed at people who are stuck. Either they haven’t started yet, they’ve been “nearly there” for longer than they’d like to admit, or they’ve already put time and effort into something – only to hit a wall when the costs turned out to be higher than expected, or the platform turned out not to do what they actually needed.

Most of what you’ll find elsewhere is written by a competitor, buried in a listicle, or too vague to actually help. Done Is Better is different. The focus is on low-cost, good-enough tools – the ones that make sense for a small business – and on helping you work out which one is right for you, based on what you already have, what you actually need, and what you’ll realistically use.

Where we get stuck

Perfection slows us down. It shows up as overthinking tools and platforms, rewriting content again and again, waiting until everything feels ready, or jumping to a new idea instead of finishing the current one.

Sometimes it’s not even about perfection. It’s about realising, halfway through, that the platform we chose is going to cost far more than we expected – or that it simply doesn’t do what we need it to. At that point, most of us either carry on regardless or give up entirely.

Done Is Better is about breaking that cycle. Making decisions with the right information, getting something live, and learning from there – rather than staying stuck or backing ourselves into a corner.

What “good enough” actually means

This isn’t about doing things badly. It’s about understanding what level you actually need to be aiming for – and that depends entirely on your business.

If you’re positioning yourself as a premium, high-end service, then yes, your website needs to reflect that. Closer to perfect is the right target.

But if you’re a tradesperson, a local service business, or anyone offering something more hands-on or in-person – and you’re already trading or just about to launch – then good enough looks quite different. Strong photos, a clear explanation of what you do, some testimonials, and a way for people to get in touch. That’s a solid website. It doesn’t need to be more than that to do its job.

The goal is always to understand what “done” needs to look like for your business – and then get there, without spending six months trying to reach a standard you don’t actually need.

Who we help

Done Is Better is for small business owners who are stuck – whether that means not knowing where to start, having been “nearly ready” for longer than feels comfortable, or having already invested time into something that turned out to be the wrong fit.

It’s also for people who are already trading perfectly well without a website, but know they’d benefit from having one. Not for growth for growth’s sake – but to make things easier and more professional for the people they already work with. Somewhere to show what they do, share availability, point people to testimonials, or just make it simpler to get in touch.

In all cases, the focus is the same: practical, impartial guidance on low-cost tools that are right for your situation – not whoever topped a listicle this month.

Who we’re not for

If you have a healthy budget and want a professionally built, polished website – that’s a completely valid choice, and there are great people who can help with that. It’s just not what this is. Done Is Better is built around low-cost, good-enough solutions, and that’s intentional. If perfect is genuinely what you need, we’re definately not the right fit.

About me

I’m Nicola. I’ve spent the last few years mentoring small businesses and teaching digital marketing – working with people at every stage, from just starting out to already trading but wanting to do more online.

A lot of that work involved sitting with people who’d been stuck for months, talking it through, making a decision, and having something live before the session was over. That shift – from “I don’t know where to start” to “right, it’s done” – is what Done Is Better grew out of.

I should probably mention that I bought the domain for this site over six months ago. It’s only just gone live. So yes, it’s aimed at people like me!
